Zenzele gets a bakery!

We are thrilled that this day has finally come. The community of Zenzele now has a fully operational bakery supplying fresh low cost bread for the community. Everyday, this bakery is producing 400 loaves, of which 200 loaves are donated to local pre-schools, creches and the less fortunate. The other 200 is sold to the community at a low cost of just R10. 

This is a huge boost for this growing community of around 5000 homes. Alongside our Grow Your Own Food program where we have a community vegetable garden and 100’s of home gardens, the less fortunate have access to fresh vegetables and now fresh locally baked delicious bread. 

A heartfelt thank you to ABBA for making this possible. This community will benefit from the bakery for years to come. With your generous donation, you are helping us fulfil our mission, to empower people and assist communities with sustainable programs. Together, we are being the difference and look forward to what lies ahead.

Newclare Primary soccer teams inspired by SA soccer legends

In celebration of Youth Day, children from Newclare Primary 1 were not only blessed with new school shoes (see more here), the soccer and netball teams were inspired by sport legends. A day these children, from this underprivileged community will remember for a long time. Stars, like Stanton (Stage) Fredericks come from this community so who knows who will arise.

Investing in our youth is important to HEF. We are grateful to legends Fabian McCarthy, Jabulanie Mendu and Joseph Makhanya who imparted skills and tips to local soccer team. Although this was a short session, days like these make a huge impact in children’s lives, whether they play a sport or not. 

More to come, HEF has plans to assist with helping this school.

Brand new school shoes for Newclare Primary underprivileged children on Youth Day

Smiles all round as over 500 underprivileged school children from ‘Newclare Primary 1’ all received a shiny brand new pair of school shoes and warm socks. Everyone was blessed with a sweet pack. The morning was spent with sing-a-long songs inspired by teachers and the children.

A burden lifted for a community servant leader grandmother who is also the sole caretaker of 7 young grandchildren

Tannie Marie, a loving, caring, commited grandmother and servant leader of her community in Pacalsdorp, just outside George in the Western Cape is seen here drinking a cup of tea from her new tea set. If you asked her, she would describe it as a cup of gratitude. 

After her 2 children passed away, she was forced to take care of 7 young grandchildren. She and the 7 children lived in a simple one roomed home, where they cooked, bathed and slept together sharing 2 mattresses. 

HEF responded to the call for help and assisted in expanding Tannie Marie’s home by building on 4 rooms and revamping the original room. The local church got together and provided beds, bedding, kitchen utensils and so on. 

A seemingly small gesture on our part provides a huge relief for a struggling family. Tears of joy flowed during our time with them. What blessed us was to see how others in the community joined in to celebrate Tannie Marie’s happiness.

Eye Witness News share on ACF Bournemouth’s visit to projects

Sport plays an integral role and is a key component in bringing restoration to individuals and communities. Having run successful soccer clinics prior to the Covid19 pandemic, we look forward to pushing forward with training clinics over the coming months and years. We were delighted to have the newly-promoted English Premier League club, AFC Bournemouth with us on a day out visiting our various projects.
